Effective October 9, 2026 · Replaces the policy dated October 7, 2026
Your verses, your progress and your profiles stay on your iPhone.
This Privacy Policy explains how Monsevais, LLC ("Sown", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Sown app for iPhone (the "App"), its home-screen and lock-screen widget, and the website at sownbibleapp.com (the "Site"). It is written to be read, so it starts with the short version and then gives the full detail.
Sown is made and operated by Monsevais, LLC, a limited liability company in the United States. For the purposes of data-protection laws, Monsevais, LLC is the controller of the limited information described in this policy. You can reach us at hello@sownbibleapp.com.
This policy covers the App (including the Verse widget and local notifications), the Site, and the content and settings service that the App talks to. It does not cover Apple's services, which are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, or other websites we link to.
Almost everything Sown knows about you is stored only on your iPhone, in the App's private storage, and is protected by your device passcode and iOS encryption. This includes:
Deleting the App deletes all of this. The Erase option in Settings clears a profile's data at any time.
The App makes a small number of requests to our server (hosted at sown-admin-production.up.railway.app). Here is everything that reaches us, grouped by purpose.
When you open the App, it fetches the Scroll feed (a curated list of verse references), narration audio you ask to play, and a small settings file that lets us adjust the App without shipping an update. These requests carry no personal information and no identifier. Like any web server, ours briefly records the requesting IP address and request details in operational logs (see section 9).
To understand how Sown is used and to improve it, the App reports a few events to us. Each report contains:
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Install id | A random identifier created the first time the App runs. It is not derived from your device, your Apple Account or any advertising identifier, it is not linked to you, and it is replaced if you delete and reinstall the App. |
| Events | app_open, onboarding_completed, verse_planted (a verse was saved, with its reference such as "John 3:16" and the translation), verse_opened_in_bible, verse_audio_played, quiz_completed (practice mode, score and duration), and subscription (which plan is active: Free or Supporter). |
| Context | App version, iOS version, device model (for example "iPhone"), your language and region setting, your plan, and the number of profiles on the device. |
We do not receive the text you type, your recitations, your profile names, your scores tied to a name, your contacts, your location, or any device identifier such as IDFA or IDFV. There is currently no in-app switch to turn this reporting off; if you prefer not to send it, please see section 10.
If you subscribe to Supporter, Apple sends our server automated notifications about the subscription (for example that it started, renewed, was canceled, or had a billing problem). These notifications contain the product, the transaction and original transaction ids that Apple assigns, dates, and the App Store environment. They do not contain your name, email address, Apple Account, or any payment details. We use them to keep our records of active subscriptions accurate.
If you write to hello@sownbibleapp.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply and to keep a record of the conversation.
Recite & Reveal lets you say a verse out loud and watch the words you get right come into focus. It works like this:
quiz_completed event described above. We do not use information to build a profile of you, to make automated decisions that affect you, to show you advertising, or to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
We do not sell, rent or trade information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Information is shared only with:
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Everything on your device | Until you erase a profile or delete the App. |
| Anonymous usage events | Up to 24 months, after which they are deleted or kept only as aggregated totals that cannot be tied to an install id. |
| Server operational logs (including IP addresses) | Kept by our hosting provider for a short rolling period, typically days to a few weeks, for security and troubleshooting. |
| Subscription notifications from Apple | For as long as needed for accounting, tax and dispute-handling obligations, generally up to seven years. |
| Email correspondence | For as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it. |
All traffic between the App, the Site and our server uses HTTPS. Our server and database are hosted with access limited to the people who run Sown, protected by passwords and, where available, multi-factor authentication. Data on your device is protected by iOS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without authorization; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we will notify you as the law requires, which for a product without accounts generally means posting a notice on the Site and in the App.
Sown is a general-audience app for reading and memorizing the Bible. It is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Family profiles exist so that several people in a household can keep separate verses and progress on one device; the names and progress in those profiles stay on the device and are never sent to us. The anonymous events described in section 4 are tied to the device's install id, not to any profile, and we cannot tell which profile, or which person, generated them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Our server is in the United States. If you use Sown from elsewhere, the limited information described above is processed in the United States, which may not have the same data-protection laws as your country. We protect it as described in this policy wherever it is processed.
sownbibleapp.com is a static marketing site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics for visitors. Our server records ordinary access logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type and time) for security. The Site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those files from Google and Google receives your IP address under Google's Privacy Policy. Safari may show an App Store banner for Sown using Apple's standard mechanism. The administration area of the Site is for Sown staff only and uses a session cookie that is set only after a staff member signs in.
The App and Site link to the App Store, to Apple's legal pages and to our Instagram and TikTok profiles. Those services have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. The Bible translations in Sown (Berean Standard Bible, World English Bible and King James Version) are public-domain texts bundled with the App; no request is made to their publishers when you read.
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. For changes that materially reduce your privacy, we will also show a notice in the App before the change takes effect. Continued use of Sown after the effective date means the new policy applies.
