Our purpose
In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus teaches that God's Word is like a seed. When it takes root in a receptive heart, it grows and produces lasting fruit.
The parable, in three parts
Scroll, and watch a single seed become a plant. It is the picture Jesus chose for what His Word does in a heart that holds on to it.
“But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop.”
Luke 8:15 · BSB
Sown is a tool to help you keep God's Word close, meditate on it, and build a stronger foundation for your faith.
The app doesn't produce spiritual growth. God's Word does the work. Sown helps you come back to it, day after day, so it has room to grow.
Four kinds of ground
Jesus told the parable to a crowd, then explained it to His disciples. The seed never changes. What changes is the ground it lands on.
The path
Seed on the hard-packed path is snatched away before it can sink in. A verse read once and never returned to is gone by evening.
Luke 8:12The rock
Seed on stone springs up fast and withers in the heat. Enthusiasm without depth does not survive a hard week.
Luke 8:13The thorns
Seed among thorns is crowded out by worry, money and pleasure. Good intentions with no room to grow.
Luke 8:14Good soil
"Those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop." Hearing, holding on, and coming back. That is what Sown is for.
